Pelecanus is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization, made up of Conservation professionals, focused on the movement that is and has been happening in the conservation field. We publish four podcasts. One is a long-form documentary style show that highlights the people and organizations that are making it their purpose to grow the conservation field and to show how people have, and still are making monumental differences in our world with intentional change. The second is a twice-monthly short-form podcast that highlights the recent news stories that exemplify this type of change. The third is a partnership with Reverse the Red called The Possibilists. Lastly we publish a series called Pelecanus Deep Dives that dives deep into a topic of a recent NEWS episode to better explore the history and context of the uplifting headline.
Pelecanus is the genus of the California Brown Pelican, a species that was at the brink of extinction because of our use of toxic chemicals. We, as a society, brought this species back, we made the decisions to reduce these toxic chemicals, we made the efforts necessary. We want this species to serve as an example of how we can have an enormous positive impact on our world around us.
The late ecologist Michael Soule´, said that he is neither optimistic nor pessimistic, he is Possibilistic. When our society values something enough to create intentional change, anything is possible.
We aim to show that not only is there something that can be done, it is being done by dedicated scientists who have made conservation their life. We can find optimism through science.
